Reunification for Schools Tabletop Exercise
About the Reunification for Schools Annex
The Reunification for Schools Annex provides clear guidance to help districts plan for, respond to, and recover from reunification operations following an emergency incident, disaster, and event. It defines essential roles, procedures, and coordination between school personnel, local law enforcement, local fire department, emergency management, and responders to ensure a unified approach and efficient process. The annex outlines key considerations, compliance actions, and available resources to strengthen accountability, communication, and safety for students, staff, and families during reunification.
About the Reunification for Schools Tabletop Exercise
The Reunification tabletop exercise (8 hours), developed in collaboration with the I Love U Guys Foundation, provides a structured framework to support school districts in planning for, responding to, reunifying, and recovering from emergency incidents that necessitate the safe reunification of students, staff, and substitutes. This exercise allows participants to apply the annex’s guidance in a facilitated, discussion-based environment designed to strengthen preparedness and operational coordination.
Participants will examine defined roles and responsibilities, reunification operations, and coordination processes involving school personnel, local law enforcement, local fire department, emergency management, and other emergency responders. The exercise emphasizes a unified, scalable approach to managing complex incidents that may impact school operations and the safety of the whole community.
Through a multi scenario-driven discussion, key considerations, decision-making challenges, training resources, and emergency response protocols are explored to enhance situational awareness, communication, accountability, and recovery planning. The tabletop exercise is designed to help districts assess current reunification procedures, identify gaps, and reinforce best practices that support the safety, security, and well-being of students, staff, families, and the whole community.
