School Behavioral Threat Assessment Series

STATE-MANDATED Virtual In-Person Spring and Summer 2026

School Behavioral Threat Assessment (SBTA) provides a proactive, evidence-based approach for identifying individuals who may pose a threat and providing interventions before a violent incident occurs. The SBTA Series includes the state-mandated training for SBTA team members plus additional, optional trainings and sessions to assist districts and team members in implementing SBTA programs.

EOP Review Training - Reunification for Schools Annex

This 2-hour, virtual training is for district Superintendents, Chief Executive Officers, Executive Directors, Chancellors, Presidents, and EOP Delegates to learn about enhancements made to the upcoming 2026-2027 EOP Review Cycle. This includes a review of templates, checklists, and key considerations based on new or updated laws, trends, and lessons learned from the 2025-2026 EOP Review Cycle. The regional sessions are in a small group format with the opportunity to interact with the presenter.

Reunification Tabletop Exercise

The Reunification for Schools tabletop exercise (8 hours), developed in collaboration with the I Love U Guys Foundation, provides a structured framework to support school districts in planning for, responding to, reunifying, and recovering from emergency incidents that necessitate the safe reunification of students, staff, substitutes, and families. This tabletop exercise allows participants to apply the annex’s guidance in a facilitated, discussion-based environment designed to strengthen preparedness and operational coordination. Through a multi scenario-driven discussion, key considerations, decision-making challenges, training resources, and emergency response protocols are explored to enhance situational awareness, communication, accountability, and recovery planning.

Mitigating Educator Maltreatment Trainings

This comprehensive training will equip administrators with the knowledge, skills, and tools to create and maintain a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment for all staff and students. By delving into real-world scenarios and examining TxSSC developed exemplars, participants will explore effective prevention and intervention strategies to address educator maltreatment, which can be defined by incidents of verbal attacks, threats, harassment, and physical aggression. The training will also explore strategies for supporting educators who have experienced maltreatment and processes for returning students to the learning environment. Upon completion, administrators will be equipped to play a crucial role in safeguarding all stakeholders and fostering healthy, positive learning and working environments.

Staying Safe: Student Safety Training Train-The-Trainer

Staying Safe is a comprehensive safety program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to respond to various emergencies and unsafe situations. Developed by leading safety experts—Safe and Sound Schools, the Texas School Safety Center, and the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center—we believe that by teaching students how to Get Out, Keep Out, and Hide Out (elementary level) or Avoid, Deny, and Disrupt (secondary level), we can empower them to make informed decision and stay safe.

Standard Response Protocol Train-The-Trainer

The Texas School Safety Center, in collaboration with the I Love U Guys Foundation, is hosting a no cost, 4-hour, train-the-trainer version of the Standard Response Protocol training. A uniform, planned, and practiced response to any incident is the foundation of a safe school. The Standard Response Protocol is action-based, flexible, and rationally organizes tactics to respond to events, accidents, intruders, and other threats to safety. SRP’s tactics are data-driven, researched, and based on experience and contemporary practices. This training also covers mandated drills for Texas schools.

Standard Reunification Method Train-The-Trainer

One critical aspect of crisis response is accountable reunification of students with their parents or guardians in the event of a school emergency. The Standard Reunification Method provides school and district safety teams with proven methods for planning, practicing, and achieving a successful reunification.

This virtual training will walk participants through all Texas bullying and cyberbullying laws, including behaviors that may apply to suspected bullying situations, such as assault, harassment, hazing, stalking, sextortion, dating violence, and related federal laws.

Digital Threat Assessment Trainings

Digital Threat Assessment was developed to address the need to keep pace with the ever-evolving technology challenges that face our students currently. Successful violence threat risk assessment requires a have a solid understanding of all data needed to appropriately assess an individuals' potential for violence. An overall assessment of risk cannot be determined without looking at social media and online activity. It is imperative to understand the tools and methods available to identify online threat related behavior.

Advanced Digital Threat Assessment Trainings

The Advanced Digital Threat Assessment Training will build and expand significantly on the skills gained in the Digital Threat Assessment training. Participants will leave with a concrete understanding of how to find and curate relevant digital information as is typically represented in a real-life digital threat assessment data gathering scenario. Major engagement and hands-on practice will take place as participants are assembled into investigative teams and given mock real-life scenarios. The Texas School Safety Center requests that participants register for this training after receiving their certificate of participation for the 7-hour Digital Threat Assessment course.

Texas Community College Safety Summit

In-Person November 17 - 18, 2025

The objective of the Texas Community College Safety Summit is to provide participants with guidance and resources to improve safety, security and emergency operations. Additionally, attendees will participate in a Non-Shooter, Active Threat Tabletop Exercise. For maximum participation and benefit, you are encouraged to bring your college's Basic Plan, Active Threat for Schools Annex, and any documents related to your Incident Command Structure, and safety and security protocols.

Say What! Action Summits

Summits are led by the Say What! Teen Ambassadors who discuss a variety of tobacco and vaping prevention topics, including vaping and teen mental health, teen addiction, nicotine vapes vs. THC vapes, harmful health effects of all tobacco products, targeted marketing from the tobacco industry, and more. Summits are free and are designed for middle and high school students.

The Say What! Texas Tobacco-Free Conference is a youth-oriented event focused on tobacco prevention awareness, education, and advocacy. Youth groups who attend gain the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully carry out innovative strategies centered on tobacco prevention and youth leadership.
