Note: These are SAMPLE Templates that need to be edited to meet the needs of your district and the circumstances. Ensure the District Administration and/or your District Legal Department has approved the language before sending to stakeholders.

This Communicating Through Crisis Flipbook was designed to help districts and schools communicate with parents, staff, and other stakeholders in a timely, consistent, and effective way during incidents that affect a school community. For each topic, we provided a full-length email, a phone script, and a text message template that can be adapted to local needs and circumstances.

Prior to any public communication, you should:

  1. Confirm the information you are conveying is accurate and that any facts you are sharing are confirmed facts.
  2. Receive permission from parents or guardians prior to publicly releasing any information about a student.
