Safe School Teen Ambassadors

This gallery is a result of youth work and was supported by the Youth and Community Initiatives Division at the Texas School Safety Center. During the spring of the 2023-2024 school year, the Texas School Safety Center facilitated a photovoice contest. Photovoice is a process in which people use photography to shine a light on sensitive topics by capturing aspects of their environment and experiences to help create change.

Students in 6th - 12th grade were invited to submit photos to share their experiences and opinions about school safety and what they would do to create safe and healthy schools and communities. The contest included three prompts which contestants could capture photos for as an intimate way to share their stories.

This gallery features the winners of the photovoice contest. We invite you to explore the photos, read the stories, discuss their recommendations, and think about how you can include the youth voice in creating a safe and healthy environment on your campus/district.
