On May 15, 2025, the Texas Education Agency released a To the Administrator Addressed announcing the 2024-2025 Safe and Supportive School Program data collection, which will be conducted in Sentinel. The data collection window is June 2 – August 29, 2025.
Campus SSSP teams can prepare for reporting now by utilizing the downloadable TEA Data Collection Tool and reviewing the TEA 2024-2025 SSSP Survey.
On April 17, 2025, the Texas Education Agency released a To the Administrator Addressed announcing the official launch of the Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTA) Module in Sentinel for all Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools.
On January 23, 2025, the Texas Education Agency released a To the Administrator Addressed announcing the adoption of 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §103.1213, Required Reporting through Sentinel. Sentinel is TEA’s formal school safety system designed to collect, process, store and distribute school safety and security information. Effective August 1, 2025, members of a threat assessment team shall utilize the threat assessment instrument, manual, and field guide in Sentinel.
During the 88th Regular Session, the Texas Legislature amended Texas Education Code 25.001 (a) and added Texas Education Code 25.036 (c) in House Bill 3 to require the transfer of a child’s disciplinary record and any threat assessments when a child transfers to a new school district. LEAs should have an established procedure to collect, review and store a student’s BTA records. This established procedure will remain in effect until the official launch of the Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTA) Module in Sentinel on August 1, 2025. As required by the 86th Texas Legislature and SB 11, the Texas School Safety Center, in coordination with the Texas Education Agency, has developed model policies and procedures to assist school districts in establishing and training threat assessment teams now mandated by TEC Sec. 37.220.
